NFL Week 16 Picks

NFL Week 16 Picks and Handicapping Packages

There are just two more weeks left in the NFL season and everything is coming down to the wire. Sports bettors are looking to make some end-of-season cash off these last games before some really heavy betting begins in the playoffs. There are certainly some very solid games that you can count on to make cash from. The more reliable teams include the Patriots and Pittsburgh, but nothing is for sure in the NFL - especially in week 16.

New England Patriots (-9) @ Buffalo Bills

Sunday, December 26 - 1:00 PM

Ralph Wilson Stadium will be the meeting ground when the 12-2 Patriots take on the 4-10 Bills in a game that looks like David and Goliath. The Pats have been so good this year blowing out opponents week after week - even ones slated as being equals including the Jets and the Steelers. So, it comes as no surprise that the sportsbooks have listed the Pats as 9 point favorites for this game. However, the Pats did fall to a struggling Browns team earlier in the season so there is always a chance for an upset.

In New Englands last outting they beat Green Bay in a nail biter as Brady and the Pats took a 31-27 victory. Green Bay was playing without the assistance of their star QB Aaron Rodgers. Had he been playing this game may have been very different - for better or worse on Green Bay’s end. But nevertheless good teams always manage to find ways to win close games.

The Bills are coming off a big win over the Dolphins 17-14. They were dogged by the sportsbooks by 6 points and managed to come out winners on the scoreboard. But with just 4 wins they face the most dominant team in football. It will take a great effort to beat the Patriots even on the Bills home turf.

Betting Trends

New England has won its last 6 games and gone OVER the total in its last 5. The team is also 5-0-1 ATS in its last 6 games and when playing Buffalo on the road. The Bills are 4-2 SU in their last 6 games while the total has gone UNDER in 6 of Buffalo’s last 8 games. The team is 4-10 on the season and 6-12-2 ATS in its last 20 games.

New Orleans Saints @ Atlanta Falcons (-2 ½)

Monday, December 27 - 8:30 PM

The Georgia Dome will play host to the New Orleans Saints for Monday Night Football two days after Christmas. The sportsbooks are giving the 12-2 Falcons a 2 ½ point spread over the Saints who sit at 10-4. Last week, the Saints fell in a close game to the Baltimore Ravens, which set them 2 games back from their division rivals in Atlanta. Now this game is going to mean even more as the Saints will need to win out and Atlanta will need to lose out in order for New Orleans to win the division.

In Atlanta’s last matchup they slammed the Seahawks 34-18 in Seattle. They easily covered the 5 ½ point spread while the 52 total points went OVER the total. Atlanta has been very strong lately as they have won their last 8 games SU.

Betting Trends

The total has gone OVER in 4 of New Orleans last 5 games and the team is 6-1 SU in its last 7 games. The Saints are 7-15 ATS in their 22 games. they have gone 14-3 SU in the last 17 games on the road but 3-8 ATS in the last 11 games on the road. Atlanta is 8-0 SU in its last 8 games but just 2-7 SU in its last 9 games against New Orleans.

Carolina Panthers @ Pittsburgh Steelers (-14 ½)

Thursday, December 23 - 8:20 PM

While the Carolina Panthers are coming off a win, the Steelers are coming off a hard loss. The Pittsburgh Steelers lost another nail biter to the NY Jets - a game that truly came down to the last second when Roethlisberger had only the option of throwing a touchdown pass or losing the game by 5 points. In the end, the Jets defense stood tall and stopped the Steelers from scoring. Despite Pittsburgh’s 10-4 record, good enough to lead their division, the team is riddled with injuries. Last week the team was missing superstar safety Troy Polamalu, starting TE Heath Miller, and nearly half the starting offensive line.

Carolina is having an abysmal year and they have been statistically out of the playoffs for months. The team has almost nothing to play for other than a little bit of respect. Their 19-12 win over the Cardinals last week have given them some life, but a game at Heinz Field is hard to win no matter what team you bring.

The sportsbooks are giving the Steelers a huge spread in this game by more than 14 points. Keep in mind though that this offense is extremely beat up and have been relying on their defense to save games for them for the second half of the season. A spread this big could be difficult for the Steelers to cover.

Betting Trends

In 4 of Carolina’s last 6 games the total has gone OVER and the team is 1-7 SU in its last 8 games. It is 2-6 ATS in the last 8. When playing on the road Carolina has gone 2-4 in its last 6 games. The Steelers are 4-1 SU in their last 5 games and 16-5 SU in its last 21 games at home.
